My dad's 95' Avalon hit 340,000miles 2 weeks ago. I just hit 240,000 miles 4 days ago. I'm currently having a problem with my A/C. It is making a eek eek eek sound while the rpm keeps on going up and down between 500rpm and 1500rpm when it's on. When the A/C is off, no sound. It makes sound with freon in the system but when I take it out, no sound. I recharge the system again, the sound comes back. This problem just started yesterday.

"04 xls

Bought our '04 Phantom Grey XLS new in February 2004. "Frankie" has 149,755 miles. Just did front brake pads and new front rotors, new rear pads and flushed the brake fluid. I've used various brands of synthetic oil since the 1st oil change and the engine burns very little between 5000-6000 mile change intervals. And, the factory wheel locks are finally history after I stripped the key.

2000 Avalon XLS with 188,000. Still running great. May need a new power steering pump, but that's about it.

96 XLS 216,000, 00 XLS 195,000

Bought both within the last two months and they both still run like champs.

This recession has taken me out of the new car game but I'm kind of glad. I MUCH prefer the 2000 XLS to the 2010 Camry I was driving.

And......I bought BOTH cars for less than what I owed on the Camry.....MUCH less.

I plan to work my way up the foodchain on these Avalons. Next stop either a 2004 XLS with low miles or if I reach a little a 2005 +, paying cash as I go.

With older cars I only feel safe if I have two on hand. So when I get a newer one later this year I'll sell the 96.......
