avalon 2006 rpm start ups

hi all,

the dealer said the way the avalon works at startup is that it will rev up to 2000 rpms in the cold weather to warm up and then settle in at 500 rpms after its warm. is this true.

It will rev a little higher at cold start, and the idle is more like 600-700 when warm. Since he's 2 for 2 on this forum, maybe your dealer knows what he is talking about.

eh... it works for all cars (not too sure about the older ones <90). When the engine is cold, say 4-5 hours / winter morning / first thing in the morning in general, the engine will rev up to about 2000~rpm. Why this happens is because your car needs to check itself via warmup engine, get electrical current goign to all places adequatly, warmup fluids, stuff like that. It occurs with all cars and it does die down to about 500~700.

if you say, w
1 - woke up, warm-up car, in about 45secs - 1min, the car will die down to 600rpm~.
2 - Drive to walmrt.
3- shop for about 30mins
4 - start car, it doesn't need to warm up again since everythign is already good to go.

in the end, your normal. You don't have to warm-up your car, its just recommend for problem free starts and crap

This is the case with my 98 Avalon as well. Tho it stays above 1k for quite some time. I usually start driving when it drops down to about 1100rpm, which takes about 2-3 mins. In fairly warm weather it starts up around 1600 rpm... cold weather around 2k rpm.
