Well I reported in an earlier thread that Toyota replaced 3 power steering pumps because of oil leaks. It is still leaking after replacing the OEM part and 2 replacement pumps. Yesterday they told me they suspect it is not he pump but a high pressure oil line fitting right above the power steering pump. The dealer said he is seeing other Avalon's coming in with this leak after 10,000 miles.
Some regional engineering rep is suppose to look at it next week and see if a fix can be designed rather than put on a replacement part on that will also fail in another 10,000 miles.
Ain't first year cars great. Does anyone know if this is the same engine in the Lexus? I was thinking of visiting their service manager to see if they are having the same problem?
It is the same engine as in tehLexus however they are mounted differently since you Avalon is FWD and the LExus is RWD/AWD. More than like the power steering pump nad lines are specific to your car and vice a versa.

PLEASE DO NOT GET RID OF THE OLD TN AS WE KNOW IT.
I want to thank 05Limited for the heads up on the power steering problem. Mine is in the shop for the first time for that problem and the part is back ordered. While researching the issue I found this post and discussed it with the Service Director. He had not heard of the problem but agreed to look into it so I would not have to return several times. Thanks for the potential time savings!
To make sure it was not the power steering pump they placed a dye in the fluid and no dye was found in the leaks. The regional rep did look at the high pressure line and instructed the mechanic to use some different type of clamps on the line. The service invoice does not list any part numbers it just says replaced clamps.
So I wonder if they used a diffeent style clamp or just replaced with the same part as OEM. If so then I can expect it to begin leaking again in the future. My car had 11,000 miles when the first leak showed up.
The Service Director had not heard of the problem, but when I talked to the service advisor to make sure he understood the potential problem said that another Avalon with the same problem had just come in. With any luck they are going to fix it right. They do plan to keeping it the rest of the week so I hope they do fix it correctly. My first Toyota, makes me a bit nervous to spend that kind of money and have warranty issues already. Let's cross our fingers!
Our 2005 Avalon started leaking oil after the 10000 mile service. They found the leak in the high pressure oil return line and replaced the hose and hose clamp with a screw type band clamp. It still leaks, is back in the shop and they found a leak in the upper formed metal part of the line. The part is on back order, there is a nationwide shortage since this does indeed seem to be a design fault that is appearing around 10000 miles all across the country. My service guy said this is the second one that he has seen. Lucky us!
Since the dealer replaced the parts it has not leaked but it is also 17 degrees outside so the oil is as thick as sludge.
I sure hope that someone at Toyota is engineering a permanent set of replacement parts for this issue or we will all be back in another 10,000 miles replacing more of the same parts.
And I'm sure there will be others that do not put as many miles on their cars each year that will be pulling into their dealer soon after the 10K mile mark.
Well I just heard back from my dealer and the part is back ordered until 12/20 (maybe). That makes it a month in the shop. It is frustrating and I hope the problem is actually solved.
Thanks for the heads up about the oil leak. I have a 06 XLS and enjoying it!! I wonder if they will do a national recall to replace this part if it is a design problem and it keeps happening to the 05-06 Avalons? Happy driving!!!
