:help:

Hi all,

I got a used Avalon 05 last week and the car is great except the key fobs do not work on it. Like everyone, I thought it was a battery issue. Went to Autozone and got the batteries checked out. The FCC id of the fobs is GG43VT20T. Both the fobs had working batteries. I went in to try and program the fobs. Followed the procedure and the car went into program mode after I turned the key ON ( did not start ). Door clicked once for add. Pressed two buttons and then pressed on button. Door cicked twice meaning it was not accepted. Tried it repeatedly with rewrite mode. Did prohibit and confirmation mode and then did rewrite. Nothing. When I put it in confirmation mode, the clicks never stopped. (5 was supposed to be the max according to TSB). After none of that worked, I got the mini VI still went ahead and ordered a $25 Aftermarket keyfob that fit the car on Amazon. MVCI cable and got Techstream and tried to do the key programming. It detected that there are 0 previously programmed fobs. Asked me to to press both buttons and then one button. But it did not detect that I was doing it. None of the three fobs worked. For my car, Techstream did not have the option of diagnostics to check and see if the receiver was seeing the signals or not.

Here are my frustrations. I do think the FCC id is the right one. How do I confirm? The first time I tried manually, the receiver saw the fobs being pressed and spat out two clicks to reject the fobs. Then why did they not work with the Techstream software. The receiver reacting the first time tells me the receiver is not bad. 2 clickers are the same OEM ones and a suitable Aftermarket fob as well tells me it is not the fob. I am left dumbfounded now. Is there any way we can see if the receiver is seeing the signals?

Forgot to mention: Checked all fuses. Dome fuse and every other fuse is fine! Tried different versions of Techstream as well.

Any suggestion would be hepful guys. Thank you in advance

As you saw in my video you can tell if it's getting signals in TechStream.
I use Techstream 8.10 and have not used the newer 10 version.
Does tech stream connect to your car at all?
Also remember Techstream Drivers WILL NOT work on 64 bit operating systems.(Most all Windows 7 and 8 Computers)

Most people use an old XP laptop to connect (Myself included)
The issue is not so much the software as it is the VCI driver, so the software may boot up up, but NOT "see" your car and thus you can make no changes to the vehicle.

The software was able to see my car. Infact I could even change some stuff like air conditioning, door auto lock etc. So it does not look like it is a software issue to me. It completely works. The only thing I noticed was that the software did not have the Wireless diagnosis you showed in your video.

programming

I had zero success at first, until I didn't turn the key off during the programming, even though the prompt says to turn the key off at a certain stage of the programming.

Also, the Chinese $30 cable might be able to do it, but for full functionality, buy an ALLScanner. Several members here use it, and I have had zero problems doing whatever Techstream was capable of (I did not update the calibration because I am paranoid about turning my Avalon PCM into a brick)

The ALLScanner can be purchased on Amazon and eBay for less than $100.00US and is high quality.

Thanks for your suggestion. I will look into the Allscanner. Found one at $163 on amazon. I'm guessing I could get my fobs programmed at a local locksmith for $40 or so. Also, for programming cars without smart keys, there is no switch off procedure involved. It simply says press both buttons and then press one button. I follow funman1 s video in the link below. The one thing I do not know is why I do not have the fourth diagnosis tab that he has to check if the receiver sees the remotes.

"I'm thinking it is because you need Security Professional level key for Techstream to be able to program. Not sure how many got it to work though! Will keep you all updated."

Sorry, but I have to ask - are you positive the fobs are a match for your vehicle?

FYI, I've only just figured how to use Techstream (Version 9) on my windows 7, 32 bit - took me awhile, but was in no hurry. My only goal was to program a spare key fob (smartkey - 2014 Avalon), I'm not sure what you mean by Security Professional level? I'm certainly not security level, let alone professional. I did get my fob programmed, so success there, but was determined to take it slow, as FixItt said, didn't need a big paperweight in my garage.

FixItt - do you mind telling us which Allscanner you have?

Thanks in advance - and best of luck

I have this one

You can buy it on Amazon and eBay for less than $100.00

Here is the seller on eBay who I purchased it from :

Don't be put off by the fact the seller is in Hong Kong. I received both of mine within 20 days of ordering them.

I have no experience with this Amazon seller, but the price is similar. if you don't have an eBay account then Amazon is a good second choice.

I was so impressed with the quality and price, a month later I purchased a second one from the same eBay seller in case the first one ever decided to fail after the warranty period.

You will need an activation code to use the ALLScanner. The ALLScanner website generates this code for you, but I had no luck so my eBay seller was kind enough to give it to me. Be sure to keep this license file safe. If you ever need to reinstall the software, you will need this license file otherwise all you will have is a brick.

BTW, the license files for both of my ALLScanners are different.
