XM satellite radio installed

I've read on the forums where dealers will install the XM antenna on the right side of the trunk. In looking at the pictures, this was pretty ugly looking and was the reason why I held off getting XM. However, I am having XM installed on my 2006 Avalon limited today and was told by the service department that there is a new XM satellite receiver that has a hidden antenna. The dealer tells me that you cannot see it. I will let you know if that is the case, but for those that have held off getting satellite radio because of the antenna, apparently, Toyota has solved this problem.

I've seen a 2006 Avalon on a dealers lot that had a Sirius antenna mounted between the rear view mirror and the windshield. It was triangular in shape and was very slick. From the outside of the car you couldn't even tell that it had satellite radio. I refuse to buy a vehicle that has a "mouse" on it (or a "sharks fin" for that matter). Satellite radio just doesn't sound good enough to put up with how ugly the antennas are.

Toyota redesigned the XM antenna for the Avalon because of the complaints they got about how ugly it looked. Its not hidden though, it is just smaller and placed on the rear deck of the vehicle. Not noticable from a distance but can be seen from the back up close.

It is not hidden, but it is hardly noticeable. It is right next to the brake light. Looks much better than the pictures showing the antenna on the trunk. I'm very happy with the installation.

Any pictures of the new antenna?

Will it be a free replacement?

My 05 has a small black mouse centered on the forward edge of the trunk lid. It doesn't look that bad but it is a lousy antenna -- it loses signal when the southern sky is blocked by buildings or lots of trees!!

2007 Avalon XLS with JBL(?)and Satellite ready hookup- looking to buy (and get installed ) XM or Sirius. Does Circuit City, Best buy, or other mass marketer have a compatible Satellite radio add-in that works directly into the existing radio? I choose to not use the Avalon dealer who has top prices.

thanks for any help.

Yes they do. Just give them a call and they will set you up.

Just answered my own question for DIY's. found this adapter kit at http://www.tss-radio.com/toyota-siri...ry-p-4471.html. But, it costs $249, plus the receiver, plus installation. Not worth it to me!
