How well are the dealerships handling some of the 06 Avalon issues?
Have avalong owners had trouble getting the sulphur problem, or other issues, taken care of? Our nearby Honda dealership just almost drove me mad, regarding some Odyssey issues.
For example, is a new catalytic converter covered by Toyota, including labor? And did the dealership acknowledge the problem right away, or did they use delay and deny tactics?
I know you're trying to research your purchase with this and the other post, but, honestly, the Avalon just does not have "issues". A car may once in a while have a production or part defect, but the Avalon is just not a car that has repeated problems. See your other post.

By "issues," I didn't mean anything significant or reoccurring. My main concern was how well the dealerships addressed these little aggravating issues. Our Odyysey is a wonderful minivan, but we had
a heck of a time getting little things fixed.

We have 2006 Honda Ody and New Av..no real problems at all. Both very good cars. Sold 5 series BMW broke down or check engine once a month...now how do you like your cars!
kuvasz: I've had a lot of cars over the years, with the ensuing "issues" that some have had, and, honestly, that's what brought me to Toyota finally. We've had an 05 Highlander now for 18 months and the 06 Avalon for 8 months. The Highlander has had no need for visits except oil changes, and the Avalon only went back to add the now-factory optional bodyside moldings. However, the dealership has Saturday service hours, the owner is on-site, and they are very aggressive about asking how things are in order to get good scores on the Toyota service surveys. If you have a choice of dealers, ask around.

A few years ago or so I read that Toyota dealerships rated poorly in customer satisfaction, in stark contrast to the ratings of the cars they sold. That sort of stuck in my mind, and I wondered if things had improved much, especially after our troubles with the Honda dealershp, another excellent carmaker.

1. sulfer smell- Solved with a call to toyota hdq usa. The dealer replaced catalytic converter as set forth by a tsb # EG039-05.
2. oil leak- dealer solved by replacing a line tsb # EG064-05 and may have done the other oil drip tsbs # EG019-07 and tsb # EG038-06.
3. power steering fluid leak- dealer fixed I think there was a tsb but do not know the #.
4. clunk in front passenger tire area- still not resolved
5. Weather strip in passenger side front window deformed- still not resolved
6. transmission shifts erratically and has since I bought the car- I just saw tsb # EG033-07 will probably cover this.
Basically for a car with less than 30K miles I have not been at all satisfied with Toyota. Sure they have fixed the tsb problems some I had to call toyota usa and they called the dealer to straighten them out. I like the car when it runs right, but what happens when my warranty runs out in a month or two? I think I may sell the car and buy something a little more reliable.

sulfur smell tsb EG039-05, timing cover and gasket tsb EG019-07, vvti oil line leak tsb EG064-05, suspension thump tsb SU005-06, transmission smoothness tsb EG033-07, ps pump and lines replaced due to leak, 18 mo clunk was loose mtr mount.
26,000 miles, no issues what so ever. The only thing that's been done to mine is the oil has been changed, one tire rotation and the cabin air filter has been replaced.
The dealership's been fantastic!
If you're having trouble with your dealership - find another.
More on the sulfur smell issue, please. I am rapidly approaching 36k, I haven't noticed any sulfur smell, but is this something that could bite after the warranty runs out? Will the TSB replace my CC even if the smell is not occuring now?

I'm not a Toyota employee or anything. I think this is how the tsb reads in a nut shell:
If you have the problem of excessive sulfur smell in stop and go driving and heavy acceleration, and if your car has under 80K miles or is less than 96 months old your car is eligible for repair.
From what it sounds like in the tsb not all cars have the problem.
It makes a note that the replaced part is still a regular service part which is still used in production. The replacement part should only be used when a customer complains of the sulfur smell.
The sulfur smell was really bad in our car. We would drive someone around and they thought we were passing gas or something. The new cat fixed it and we do not have that awful smell anymore. The gas mileage did go down a few mpg. It had to have been the replacement converter.
