Wanna get it to have the bluish headlight appreance without spending 300 for a HID conversion kit.
What are the best bulbs to get ?
I saw the following :
Sylvania Cool Blue - good life and not that much $$$ (3200K)
SilverStar - Not so good life and about $5 more than Cool Blue (3400K)
Phillips Blue Vision Only from the UK, about the same as silver star (4000K)
Anyone got any suggestions ?
I wanna keep it classy, but have a tint of blue ...
Nokya 7000k Arctic White Halogens. This is what I use with an upgraded wiring harness. They are 100w draw, very bright and a nice bluish tint with white light tho. I will try to get some better pictures this weekend of it.
I put the Toshiba HIR's in mine, low and high beam. They are amazingly bright, and don't draw any more current then a stock bulb. They do not have the bluish tint that you said you wanted, but most of those bluish bulbs of stock wattage are just trying to look like HID and actually produce less light then a stock bulb. I use Osram (NOT sylvania) Silverstars on my bike, but as they werent available for the Avalon's headlights, i went with HIRs and think they are brighter. A buddy of mine put an HID setup on his bike, said he bought it for $180 or 190, and it is BRIGHT...so you might wanna think about that also.
Thanks for the Info guys.....so whats the life on the bulbs ? I really dont wanna be changing them every 6 months...
Also when I upgrade the harness...what does that entail ? Do I need to cut wires etc ? or is it a clip...
I assume this voids warrenty.....do you know ?
thx
I have had these bulbs in for 7 months now, they are still burning as bright as day 1. Upgrading the wire harness is simple, just clip on the connector end of the new harness onto the existing bulb connector thats attached to the factory wiring harness (where the bulb would normally plug) and plug the other end into the bulb! Think of it as like an extension to the current harness, except its stronger and more heat resistant!
Silverstars, best lighting, closest look to HID, and almost as bright as some HID systems. Great lifetime, can buy them at any auto store, no modifications needed to fit, run off your same harness, no upgrading its only 65W as opposed to 55W. And the light output is legal and looks great.
NY....the link you sent shows the bulbs to be 4100K ...and the ones I found were 7000K....so which is the one you used, I think 7K is closer to HID ......just wanna make sure before I order all the stuff..
Ahhh ha, my fault. The link I posted are the bulbs I have in my Lexus. The ones you have there from eautoworks (a good place to buy from) are the correct bulbs that I have in my avalon. The DRL bulbs are a different bulb from the low beam. I have DRL also, and they are unaffected. If you upgrade the high beams also, you shouldn't HAVE to use a wire harness unless you are gonna be running the high beams on for a lengthy time period. I did the upgrade and bulbs for my headlights and foglights, so that they all color match perfectly. I bought 2 pairs of bulbs, and 2 pairs of harnesses. The KYO harness you linked to is the same harness I have.
edit: The 7000k bulbs will be brighter and have that bluish tint you are looking for, but not be a ricey blue. The 4100k bulbs I have in my Lex shine white with more of a yellow tint like a stock halogen bulb. I'm waiting for those to blow on my Lex so I can upgrade to the Nokya 7000k. I have had the current Nokya's in my Lexus since Winter of 2004.
How long have you been running them? I just bought a set of PIAA's and they blew after 2 months. At least I got my money back
