I had the same problem like that .
I would also like to share my the scariest driving experience, here.

My car is 05 XLS, after 2 years normal driving. I find out my car starts to oil leak in somewhere(on that time we dont know where that is)Since the oil continue to drip on my garage. More worsely,oil sucks into my timming belt, then, it cause my engine have some scrachy noise(between the belt and the bearing wheel) when the engine TURN OFF.(WTH) So I dont really think that is the problem, so I continue my driving as usual.

But one day, after I finish the replacement of the "assembly", the NIGHTMARE finally towards to me. When I was driving on the avenue and trying to have right turn to residental st. All in sudden, it was like the steering wheel being frozen, CAN NOT TURN!! On that moment, I felt myself so lucky, cuz I was only on the residental interception, not in the high-volume traffic interception. Finally, The Buster was comming, the guy open the hood, he found out the belt had been off the bearing wheel. The reason of that , is simple and easy , Why it comes off without any omens?
CUZ THE OIL FULLY SUCKS INTO THE TIMMING BELT. it lubricated the surface.


The timming belt will cause you NO POWER STEERING, BATTERY CHARGING.


Volks,here is my some personal advise for everyone that is owning 05 Avalon, carefully check your timming belt after your Oil Pipe Assembly replacement. and check :Dose the car has the same werid sound when the engine turns off ? If so, replace your timming belt as soon as possible, (LIFE GUARANTEE!!)This incident make me know that Toyota would make some REAL LEMMON CAR ,EVEN IT's a Top selling manufacture.

The new avalon has a timing chain not a belt. It does have a serpintine belt, and that drives your powersteering pump. I work at a toyota dealer and we see a few of these every day. We are all wondering why this isn't a recall yet.

I just got my '05 Avy back today from having both oil leak TSB's perfomed (EG019-07: Evidence of a small oil leak where the Bank 1 cylinder head, engine block and timing cover meet and EG064-05: Small oil leak from Bank1 VVTi oil supply line). Per the tech, they lowered the front rack in order to re-seal the cover.........talk about a job.....all that work to apply what must have been only $3 worth of FIPG sealant. The VVTi oil line also showed signs of a potential leak, so they replaced it with the "improved" line. My oil leak days should be behind me now.

Had I known, I would've not changed the oil and filter two days prior to taking it......that was a waste of 6+ qrts of Mobil 1 and a filter. I say this because, I think they replaced the oil and filter as part of the job. But what the heck, I think they also replaced coolant......so that saves me from having to do that DIY job for another few more years.

I have to say that I was very happy with the quality of service that I received from my local dealership. They just so happen to be part of the same auto group that runs the local Honda dealership......I've been very satisfied with their service over the year (my daily drive was an Accord coupe and I now have a new Si coupe)

Any chance it will be recalled, I don't see a leak yet, do they all do it? I have "certified used" a 05 LTD but wonder if I would have to pay the 50.00 deductable.

Limited Service Campaign for VVT-i Oil Line
On February 22, Toyota announced phase three of a Limited Service Campaign (LSC) on certain 2007 – 2009 model year Avalon and RAV4 vehicles with a 2GR-FE (V6) engine, the rubber portion of the oil supply hose for the VVT-i actuator may degrade over time. This condition may cause oil to leak from the VVT-i oil hose producing abnormal engine noise and the oil pressure light to illuminate.

This is not a safety recall and submitting a Defect Information Report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is not required. Toyota has taken this step in the interest of customer satisfaction, informing owners that Toyota and Lexus dealers will modify their vehicle to help them avoid experiencing the condition.

For phase three, there are approximately 128,800 Avalon (2007 – 2009 model year) and 89,000 RAV4 V6 (2007 – 2009 model year) vehicles involved in the United States.

Last year, Toyota also announced phases one and two of this LSC on approximately 342,200 Toyota Avalon (model year 2005 – 2006), Camry (2007 – early 2010) and RAV4 V6 (2006 model year), and 374,000 Lexus ES 350 (model year 2007-2008) and RX 350 (model year 2007-2009) vehicles.

Owners of the involved vehicles will receive a LSC notification by first class mail.

Toyota dealers will replace the VVT-i Oil Hose with a newly designed one at NO CHARGE to the customer. The repair will take approximately one hour. However, depending upon the dealer’s work schedule, it may be necessary to make the vehicle available for a longer period of time.

This Limited Service Campaign will be offered until March 31, 2013.

If an owner has any immediate concerns they are requested to contact their local Toyota dealer for diagnosis, and if applicable, repair.
