Question HomeLink won't program in 2008

At the risk of telling you something you already know, the 1st step in programming Homelink in the 2008 Avy is to hold down one of the buttons on the HomeLink while holding down the button on the garage remote while the 2 are within a couple of inches of each other. "Continue holding down both buttons until the Homelink indicator light changes from a slow blink to a rapid flash".

Well, folks, I do not get a slow blink nor a rapid flash. The indicator light shows solid red while I hold the buttons down and turns green when I release the buttons.

No matter what I do, the Homelink button remains a solid color - no blinking or flashing.

All solutions, comments and hints welcomed. Thanks.

The manual has a step missing in the instructions. According the the homelink website, the missing step is the first step to perform.
1.For first time training, press and hold the two outer HomeLink buttons, releasing only when the HomeLink indicator light begins to flash after 20 seconds.
Try this and I think it wil work.

Thanks, Jim. Tried that - no blinking indicator or any indication that the HomeLink is responding. Maybe it is time to see my local Toyota dealer.

Homelink programming

I assume you have considered the possibility that, as the owner's manual states, if the first programming method doesn't work, you might have to press the "learn" button on your garage door opener. This is some kind of "rolling security code" or something. I have a new '08 Avalonand could not program the Homelink just with the opener remote, but it worked fine when I followed the alternative instructions.

Homelink programming

Yes, my garage door opener does use the "rolling security code" feature. I tried the alternate method, but no luck. I suspect the problem is in the Homelink unit installed in the car because I can get no response from it, no matter what I do.

Thanks for the suggestions.

njerald -

Been there, done that. In case you missed it, the Homelink indicator buttons do not respond to anything. Cannot get them to blink at all.
