use of ethanol fuel in 2008 avalon

I was looking for gas today in my area and found that only gas containing up to 10% ethanol was available, anyone used this before or may offer any suggestions, wonder what toyotos comment would be ?

I have been using it in my 2005 and noticed an immediate drop in gas mileage from about 24 average down to 21. I will be switching to Shell as they seem to be the only vendor in my area that does not have ethanol in their fuel.

The ’08 manual states that Toyota does not recommend blended gasoline, but then just right below this statement, it says that Toyota allows 10% ethanol to be used in the engine.

If you can avoid the ethanol, do it. Simply stated, the engine will consume more gas for the same mileage because ethanol contains additional oxygen. The engine’s oxygen sensors will detect the surplus, and believing that the mixture is lean will keep the fuel injector open for a little longer to get the proper air/fuel ratio for the combustion.

Hence the engine will consume more gas although you may experience a bit more of boost.
