Time for New Tires '06 Ltd

I have 42k on my '06 Ltd and b/c I haven't kept up with rotation as well as I should have, my front stock tires are at the wear indicators now. They've never struck me as good performers in water (even when I first got the car).

So... I did a search and read several threads. I've I was able to reach any type of 'consensus', it was that with the stock rims, 235/50-17 seem to be a good size if you want to go a little wider and bit lower profile. Using the calculator below, I'm comfortable that the diameter effect (speedo accuracy) change is nearly negligible with this change from 215/55/17 stock size. I have two questions (and the are inter-related):

1) With the same tire in these two different sizes, how much affect could I expect to feel in ride quality?
2) What are some good tires in this size if my concern factors are water performance, quietness, and tread wear life? I'm not necessarily looking to buy the cheapest, but also not looking to break the bank, so I guess I'm looking for that good balanced tire in these areas.

That's such a small change I doubt it will affect anything but looks.

Getting a cheep tire will affect the ride quality no matter what size you get.

I am not an Avalon owner...yet.

However, just a word of caution...i would stick to stock size. IF you do have a flat tire, then you have to use your spare tire. Your spare tire has a diameter equal to your stock size tire. Diameter is the main requirement, not width...that is why the spare compact is thin but tall. So, if you went with a bigger tire, then your spare tire (in the event of a flat) will not be the same size (diameter) as your other tires. This may cause issues with your electronics (stability control; and traction control if you have a flat on your front tires).

Avalon Tires

I just replaced tires on my 2008. Did as much research as I could and ended up buying General Altimax. I bought the last set from TireRack but this time found a local shop which price matched. The tires are quiet and ride well compared to the stock Michelins, which are over-rated and over- priced. Have only put on a few hundred miles so don't know about the wear. Very highly rated on TireRack.com. Kind of a medium priced line tire.

yes, canadian wal-marts sell nexens, but not the American ones.

I atcually get my nexens @ car kraze auto up in bramton, ontario.

cheaper than wal-mart and free balance+ install.

the tires are really good. I hav toyo all seasons that came with my avalon (which i bought used), but my winters are nexens on 16inch toyota alloys.

No complaints,
