2008 Hands Free Phone

We have a new 2008 Limited and are having difficulty with the hands free phone. We can pair a cell phone to the hands free but when we leave the car (and break the blue tooth connection) and return, the car does not recognize the phone and wants to go thru the pairing process again. I am quite sure that the car should recognize the presence of the phone. Am I doing something wrong or is their a problem with the car phone?

Bill

You must be just temporarily powering the bluetooth on your phone.

You should be able to set your phone up to enable Bluetooth all the time but it will reduce your battery charge more quickly than normal.

No, the Blue tooth on the phone is not being turned off. All we do is walk out of range of the car such as go into a store and then upon returning, the phone is not paired. My bluetooth earphones stay paired such that when they are turned on in the presence of my cell phone or blackberry, they are connected and the process of re-pairing is not needed. My question is that I assume that is the way the hands free phone in the Avalon should work...we should not have to re-pair it everytime we get in the car. Do I understand the proper operation correctly? If so, then either we are doing something incorrect during the pairing (making it only temporary in the car) or the car phone is somehow defective. Any insights?

Thanks,
Bill

Lightbulb Possibly Solution to BlueTooth problems

I was having similar problems with my phone. It was paired and working fine and then just stopped working. After that, I was unable to get it to pair. No matter what I did, the phone would pair to the car, but the car couldn't find the phone.

In another forum I found a suggestion.... Power off the phone. Then when you turn it on try again. I tried it and it worked like a charm!

Good luck!

Some systems require you to connect manually each time you enter the car. I have a TREO and to get the car to see the phone in the pair process you have to disconnect and then connect while the annoying little car lady is saying searching. When I did this the BT signal meter at the top right of my NAV screen came on and all worked great. The phone was then saved in the system. I’m guessing that I’ll need to connect to the car each time I get in.

On my TREO I go to the Bluetooth screen and go to trusted devices and then hit the ALT key which brings up a Device Actions tab that has a connect command this then allows my phone to connect to the car.

Not sure what phone you have but this worked for me.

Just like njerald indicated, you're not doing something right. All it takes for the car to recognize your phone is to have the phone's Bluetooth permanently "on".

No matter how many times I jump in & out of the car, my avy automatically recognizes my cell phone without hesitation.
