G-NET camera

We bought a used 2006 Avalon with the Nav. system and I’m looking to install the G-net system. The box looks pretty easy to install but i'm looking for someone that installed one of their cameras. I was wondering if it was a pain to drill into the bumper for the camera or was it simple. I like the idea of the smooth look with the camera that you mount flush by the plate holder. I've seen some of the cameras built into the plate holder but i’m leaning towards drilling into the bumper to make it flush. Also was the wire harness plug and play or did you have to cut the wires. If anyone installed a camera that’s flush please post some pics so I can see how it was done.

Thanks
Jeff

I did not use the C-Net camera; only the C-NET video interface. I used a $40 camera with integral night illumination purchased on eBay.
See http://members.cox.net/n0v8or/revers...ra_install.pdf for some details.

Thanks for the replay. I saw those picks when i was reasearching the cameras. they will be very helpfull when i do the install. Have you had any problems with the $40 dollar camera yet? And do you know if there was much difference from it and the $100.00 + camera from g-net? I also see you made the wire harness. It says on the web site that its plug and play but im guessing you have to tap into the brake line. Is there any other wires that i would have to cut into?

Thanks
Again
Jeff

You will have to tap into 3 wires; all are available in the harness that runs to the Nav connector.
Reverse (back-up lamps)
Accessory
Ground

I don't know how the $40 and $100 cameras compare because I have not experienced the performance of the latter. My $40 camera seems to have diminished night sensitivity of late. When first installed, I could see 10-15 feet to the rear in total darkness (reverse lights on and helping, of course). That no longer seems to be true, though it's OK otherwise.

I have add'l pics that were not included in the PDF file. I also had to enlarge the hole that passes into the trunk and install a larger weather-proofing grommet. The factory hole is used to run wires to the license plate lamps.
