Arrow smart key problem ?

I have a 2006 avalon with the smart key system. I'm having a problem with the car not recognizing either of the remotes. It just started 2 weeks ago. and this is what is happening. Every morning when i go to get in to the car i have to press the unlock button numerous times for a couple of minutes until it will unlock,( also it does not recognize the trunk or the unlock buttons unless I press the buttons for a few minutes) and when i go to start the car the light on the dash comes on saying it can not find the key. This happens every morning and everyday after work. I thought that the battery might be going dead in the remote but it does the same thing with both keys. Also once i get the key to work it works fine , but when the car sits for awhile it acts up again. Has any one else had this problem before. Any feed back would be very helpfull. Thanks

I wouldn't eliminate the batteries as the cause quite so quickly. Both of our remote batteries required replacement within weeks of each other. Will the car start on the first try if you hold the Toyota logo on the remote against the start button while pressing it?

Thanks for the reply, I'll try that. Also if i replace the batteries in the remotes i would need to reinitialize the remotes right. I would need to put the remote next to the start button and press it?

Once registered to the car, the smart key will be recognized by the vehicle when you are closed by. The battery on the smart keys doesn't last very long, usually 1 to 1 1/2 year. When the battery is weak, it does affect the remote's effectiveness.

As N.E.O. suggests, I did not have to re-initialize the remote after changing the battery.

The battery number for my remotes is CR1632. Instructions for replacing it are in the Owner's Manual. The battery is not expensive, but I could not find them in local stores. I ended up ordering a half-dozen online at $2.10 each (http://www.batteries.com/productprof...p?appid=315888).

I had a similar problem, one of the remotes would work, then not, then work again... I thought there was a short inside of the remote, because it would work if i squeezed it tight. I changed the battery and all was well.

I couldn't find the battery anywhere... except Batteries Plus. They charged $4 for one, ah well. at least it works.

Had the Same Problem

I had the same thing happen to me. I found the batteries on Amazon.com cheap and replacing them took just a couple of minutes. Both remotes work great now.
Just for my own curiosity does anyone else ever have there remote go off in there pockets? I have come out and found my trunk open after work and the emergency alarm goes off at least once a month from change or something in my pocket pushing against the key-fob remote. Just wondering if it's just me.

Thanks,
James

That's why I hold the remote in my hand until I walk out of range. I'd done that a couple times myself, either finding I'd inadvertently unlocked the car or popped the trunk open after putting the remote in my pocket. Sometimes technology has its own pitfalls....
