My 2007 Avalon has poor radio antenna reception. Windshield antenna. I first had the problem checked out at the dealership while the car was still under warranty. A tech reported that the antenna connections were poor and did something to correct the problem. This repair initially worked great but only lasted for a few short months and the problem is back. I’m listening to local radio stations that would normally come in okay. The static comes in short bursts that cut out radio receptions. It’s a very annoying problem. I’d like to check out the antenna connections myself. Can someone explain where the antenna connections are?
I have a 2005; your 2007 could be different, but I doubt it.
On my vehicle, the antenna is laminated onto the rear window (a.k.a., "backlite"), and the antenna preamplifier is mounted behind the trim panel that is located between the rear window and rear passenger (right) side window. Once the panel is removed, you will see, from the preamplifier, two connections to the grid. a connector for power, and another connector to the audio "haad unit". The preamplifier is located close o the headliner and mounted to the sheet metal panel with a single bolt.
Thanks for the reply inov8. I'll take a look at it in a couple of days. Hopefully the connections will be easy to find and that will solve the poor antenna reception problem.
I think I figured out the problem on my car. I've had a constant belt squeal for awhile. I think the noise from the belt squeal affected the radio somehow. It was also affecting the computer causing a misfire sometimes and a check engine light( I changed a couple of coils with no luck). I had changed the accessory belt twice and no change in the squeaking and squealing. I pulled off the pullies and sanded them and washed the pullies with degreaser and brake cleaner.
There is no more squeal from the belt and the radio reception instantly returned to normal.

What a catch. I don't think I will ever think the problem is from the belte/pullies

Call me stupid if you wish but you'll have to explain to me the relationship between an accessory drive belt and a radios reception. I just can't see how a slipping belt could cause bad radio reception. I'm also having a hard time understanding how the belt could also cause a misfire (and it's the misfire that causes the CEL, not the belt).
Can you help me understand how this happens? I think I'm missing something here...

I don't know. All I know is that I've been getting misfire codes and terrible radio reception. I changed one of the coil packs last month and it did nothing. I was going to check the contacts for the antenna, but I put that off. I changed the belt because of the squeal and sanded the pullies. When I started the car it ran quiet and the reception was good. A couple hundred miles later there are no codes and radio reception is still good. The only thing I touched was the pullies and belt. Maybe the belt was slipping on the alternator?
