06 NAV ? : Night mode?

I have an 06 Limited with NAV. It used to switch auto-magically at night into a "night-mode" wherein the background was black instead of white. It was great because the glare of all that white in the cabin at night takes its toll on the eyeballs.

It doesn't do the switch anymore. I've gone through the options feature and even experimented with the contrast and brightness, but have been unable to locate the method for the auto-magic switch to night-mode.

Can anyone assist me?

Thanks,

EDJ

Make sure the rotary control for the cabin lights is at something less than maxxed out. I had the same problem on my '05 and it turned out I had the cabin/dash lights turned all the way up. Might give it a try.

Your auto-magic switch could be turned off by a few factors. I’m gonna mention two of them…along with their fix.

First factor: you (or someone else) may have accidentally set the screen to “Day Mode” when the headlights were ON. Under these circumstances that setting will remain until manually changed.
The Fix:
1) Turn the ignition key to ACC.
2) Turn-on the headlights.
3) Hit the DISP button of the Navigation Controller & check that the screen’s Contrast & Brightness levels are halfway their respective scale. If not adjust manually.
4) Further down and next to the option “Screen Off” (on the display) you should see either the “Default” or “Night Mode” option.
5) Select this switch & tell me what happened.

Second factor: …or the screen setting is not properly configured in the “Setup” menu.
The Fix:
1) Turn the ignition key to ACC.
2) Since you already checked that the Brightness & Contrast levels are properly set, hit the “Menu” button of the Navigation Controller.
3) Go to Setup
4) Under Setup check that “Map Color (day)” and “Map Color (night)” are both set to “Normal”. If not adjust manually.

Hope that one of these two made the trick.
