Possible Transmission Problem?

Earlier today I was driving my 05 Avalon and pulled up at an intersection and began to gradually accelerate after making a right turn.

Anyway the car jerked forward, felt like the transmission skipped a few gears before lurching into position. Immediately after the Check Engine Light and VSC Lights lighted up on the dash. I pulled over to the side of the road to see if restarting the car would help but both Check Engine Lights and VSC Lights are still on. The car made it home ok without any lurches or jumps and everything seemed fine except for the lights on the dash.

Havent had time to take it in the dealer but after some digging around in the forums I wonder if this has something to do with the transmission software update? Car has not received the update or any other Tranny related work, this is the first time this has happened.

Any Ideas?

VSC light on 2008 Highlander

Ron, I own a 2008 Highlander Sport, 6 months old. Same thing happened to me today, caution, motor and VSC lights all on the dash . All toyota dealers in our area are closed today so expect to take it in for diagnosis on Monday, will post the results of that on this forum on Monday.

I brought it into the dealer and they say its a problem with one of the ignition coils. They had to special order one because they dont have any in stock?!?!?! The part should show up sometime this week and the car should be good to go. Thank gawd the transmission didnt go bad.

Ellie good luck to you man, hopefully its nothing serious. Toyota payed for the $130 Coil but I have to pay for the install. I dont think it would be hard to install but I figure ill let the dealer take care of it, if anything goes wrong its their fualt.

Hi Ron. The dealer claimed something triggered my VSC light from coming on, they reset the system and after 3 hours we were on our way. Doing some shopping on Tuesday the light came on again. Back to the dealership. They now claim it's an air flow sensor on the engine (that regulates how much air goes into it while running) was malfunctiong setting off the VSC . so the part is on order and I suspect I'll be back to the dealership after new years. Makes you angry with a 6 month old vehicle. Glad my husband is retired and can take the time to do this. Hope your problem gets solved and have a happy new year
