If you're looking for a "built-in" radio, my suggestion would be to check out Crutchfield.com. By specifying the model and year, you will be given a selection of radios that are designed to replace your existing radio and fit in your dashboard properly. If you're looking to spend less money, you can get the small dash-mounted models that clip on to your air conditioner register or mount via suction cup to your dashboard. They work just as well (I have one in my Tundra), and even have features that are not in the factory installed XM radio in my Avalon. The downside is that you've got external wires running for power and antenna. If you're interested in checking these out, go to the XM/Sirius website and look that their choices.

Just go on e-Bay and type avalon satelite radio. You will see listings for both Sirius and XM models for the Avalon & other Toyo models. I have the same car as you, with the JBL system. The XM box mounts on the underside of the rear package shelf, which is accessed via the trunk. Basically, the underside of where the rear speakers are. On the right side of the car, there is a frame member that supports this shelf, and the xm box will mount right there. The wiring harness should be nearby. The antenna mounts to the trunk lid (you determine location).

Should be a very easy fix. If you have trouble, just go look at a car on the dealer's lot that has XM or sirius installed. The box is very easy to spot once you know where to look.

Are the boxes you buy on ebay just like the ones from the factory? What is the price comparison? I also have JBL but no nav. I've installed the external ones before, but looking for an integrated solution for my parents' car.

Does the radio have SAT below the AM button?

Is there any way to mount the antenna on the rear part of the roof where the GPS antenna would be (if I had Nav)? I have no idea how to access that spot as it would seem like I'd have to route the wire through the headliner.

Also, If I decided to put in an aftermarket GPS unit is it likely that the antenna wire has already been run to that location?

Just installed a Toyota XM receiver in my 2010 limited yesterday. Very easy process that took about an hour. The biggest obstacle was locating the antenna wire. It is just hanging there in the truck behind the bed liner (on the passenger side).

Here's a quick breakdown of my installation process:

1. Remove the necessary trim pieces from around the radio and drop the glove box.
2. Plug in the receiver control wire (contained in the fit kit) to the back of your head unit and route that wire behind the glove box and down the passenger side to the trunk.
3. Mount the XM receiver in trunk (passenger side) behind the bed liner (the holes are already drilled).
4. Plug in the receiver control cable and the antenna cable (which is just hanging there already).
5. Turn on the radio and activate with XM.

One thing I was disappointed with after I activated my satellite radio is that it only displays 10 characters and it does NOT scroll (when I called Toyota customer service they told me it displayed 12 AND scrolled). I had previously read about the non-scrolling, but I thought with the new receivers that recently came out, they fixed this. Toyota certainly lags behind the North American and European manufacturers when it comes to electronics.
