Question Oil TSB

Does TSB in link apply to 2008 and 2009 models?
http://www.nwfjcc.com/FJ%20Tech/eg018t06.pdf

TSB says inital application for 0W-20 is in the 2006 model year 2AZ-FE engine and will be used in the new engines to be developed.

Not positive but I think the engine in my 2009 Avalon is same as in Lexus 350 which is a 2GR-FE.

Initial application for 0W–20 is in the 2006 model year 2AZ–FE engine and will be used in new engines to be developed.

What about all the other engines referenced in the TBS which are not 4 cylinders? For those engine they recommend SAE 5W–20

The TSB says,

"Use the recommended grade specified on the oil filler cap or in the Repair Manual or Owner’s Manual for each vehicle."

I'm not even sure what you're asking here...

I've seen service bulletins saying it is ok to use 5w-20 in the 6 cyls. But not if you are towing anything. It would probably be beneficial up here in Wis where we have temps at -20 in the winter and wind chills down to 35 below.
Other than that there is no big diff between 5w-20 and 5w-30 oils in my book. The reason Toyota and other manufacurers are going to lighter oils is the oils are good enough to protect and they circulate so easily that it ever so slightly can increase the manuafacurers fleet average.

My oil and weight of chose is Mobil 1 15W-50. I've used it with success for many many years. Currently in four of my vehicles.

With the Toyota being under warranty I'll need to go ahead and use the recommended 5W-30, although I will switch to synthetic.

switch to mobil 1 is a great idea. and for what it's worth...i know of 2 different dealers down here in texas that use 10w30 in their oil changes, but we rarely see temps below freezing, and alot of the year in the 90's
