Console Display Info

May 2005 I bought a new (’05) Touring (without Navig). When I first got it, the display screen only displayed the radio station/cd info and the “mode” for heat/ac vents. After 1 yr, the battery died. Toyota replaced it. At that point, the display screen showed above info PLUS new info along the bottom of the screen – outside temp, #miles remaining for fuel level, trip time and mpg info. (Asked Toyota service why this info was never displayed earlier – they had no answer.) When this info first began to appear, on a full tank of gas the display would read that I could drive approx 360-363 miles. It has been about 2.5 years since this info first began to appear and one day (suddenly), on a full tank the display reads that I can drive approx 330 miles. What happened to the other 30 miles?? Anyone else have a similar experience? Any explanation from Toyota? Thanks.

maybe someone more knowledgable will reply also... but mine has always been like that it seems. it's like it remembers mileage from previous tank or tanks, and starts out with that. if i hit the hiway it will adjust and the next tank it will display more.

thanks, silver. that makes a lot of sense...if it works like that (averaging miles driven on previous tanks). the problem w/ mine is that it always gave me 360 miles on a full tank and only recently started giving me the lower # (330 miles) on a full tank. so, now the question is: has mine only recently started averaging previous tanks of gas? strange. thanks again.

that can vary with a lot of varibles

tire inflation, winter blend gas, E10 or higher ethanol content gas, different drivers behind the wheel(even for only a few trips), traffic and any other reason you sit idling for longer periods of time(drive-through, etc.) will through this average off. Do the actual math for a couple tank fulls and see how accurate it is. On the 08 model, the button besides the screen changes views and can completely turn the blue screen off, probably was bumped at one point and time and now that the battery has been replaced it is at the default setting. battery replacement/disconnect/reconnect resets everything and any settings like seat belt reminder has to be redone; also you have to recalibrate the windows and sunroof by opening them halfway and then close them holding the button down and counting to 5 after it has reached the seals. I just had the pleasure of finding all this out after I upgraded my factory speakers and had the battery disconnected for a while.
