Locked in Day mode

Hi,
I'm a new owner of a 2008 Avalon limited. What a marvelous car. Now I understand what you all are raving about.

At night the Nav system stays in day mode - never switches to night. After reading the book, I noticed that this is an option on the display panel, to stay in day mode - but I don't seem to have this option.

I checked this forum and found a similar question, but it said that I need to back off on the dimmer pot - this doesn't fix my problem either.

So I went to my handy dandy dealer - and their head mechanic was stumped.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chris

Not sure if your software/hardware is identical to my '05; but see if this works for you:

While NOT depressing the brake pedal, push the start button twice to turn on accessory mode. Or, turn the key to accessory mode if a key-start model.
After the map display to appears . . . . .
At the lower right on the pull-out control panel, push the DISP button (Display).
This should bring up a menu with brightness, contrast, etc.
Turn on the headlights.
Just below "Brightness" should be a soft button labeled "Day Mode"
Use the joystick to move to and highlight the Day Mode button, and then press the center button on the joystick (equivalent to "clicking" a mouse) . You may have to move to OK and click there as well for the change to be accepted.
If you have successfully turned off Day Mode, the soft button should disappear when the headlights are turned off.

Thanks for getting back to me. My software is version 07.01 and I followed your sequence - this is the same as what I found in the book - it's good to find that it works for someone.

When I turn on the lights - I don't get the DISP screen that shows the day mode button. I think I may have a bug.

Dang.......

It works. I thought it would go into night mode by turning on the lights - No,, No,, No.... It has to be night time...... What a jerk....

It always scares me when I don't know what I did to fix it - I played with so many options, as well as removing and re-inserting the DVD.

Which brings up an interesting point - how on earth does it know it's night?
1) a sensor?
2) the Time?

Thanks for all your help,
Chris

It's a sensor. Mine will swap back and forth between modes as I enter and exit tunnels and longer underpasses.
