08 Factory Navigation

I have an 08 Avalon with factory navigation.(vin= 4T1BR362B8UT.....)My understanding is that there are 6 or more different navigation systems available. How do I know which one I have to try to get it working properly? Can anyone provide a condensed procedure to setting a destination? Can anyone provide a condensed procedure for getting the voice activation system to work? I haven't had any luck following the novel (manual) to explain how to get the thing to work. I have had it to the dealership multiple times with no simplified results. My wife has a Garmin Nuvi which is easy and a joy to operate. I am very disappointed with the complexity of a system that is anything but user friendly. I would think Toyota should be able to give its customers a condensed answer to these questions.

While not trying to sound like a smart-ass, I'll condense my response to you with "Welcome to the club".

Plain and simple, the Garmin is a better Nav unit.

You're lucky you didn't get the factory "remote start" feature. At least you can get some use out a crappy GPS.

Tom in Tacoma said it very well. The navigation system in the Avalon sucks. You will probably avoid a lot of frustration and anger if you just leave it not working and use a Garmin. For the $2000 that the system costs, you are much better off if the next 40 times you take a crap, wipe with a $50 dollar bill.

Don't know that the factory system is quite that bad - but that's a novel idea!
