Avic F-90BT Upgrade Problem

Hi Everyone,

Well I took the plunge and had the new Pioneer installed in my 06 Avalon. He did a great job and it looks and sounds great. We do have one problem.

Right after the initial install, while I was driving home I noticed that I had very little AM reception. The FM side was full of static, but better. I returned to the installer yesterday and he tried another antenna which was great when positioned on the outside of the car but only a little better when placed on the inside of the rear window.

I have done some research and found out that the original antenna is powered. I am not sure if he was aware of this or not, but I would like to find out where the connections are to power the antenna. He ran a harness to the trunk where the old radio is mounted to maintain the AC controls. Is there a pin on the original radio which supplies power to the Antenna? If so which one would it be? If that were the case then we could run a wire to it and hopefully solve the problem. Would love to post pics, but I am not allowed at this point.

Thanks in advance for any help that you all can provide.

M

There's a black wire that is taped together with the 2 antenna plugs behind the radio. Connect the power antenna wire from your new radio to that black wire and that will fix your problem.

Thanks so much for the response. Not sure if he tried this or not but will certainly mention it him tomorrow.

Thanks again.

hey how did you fit a AVIC F90 in there?

I have a 05 tacoma with a F900bt and I love it.

I also have a 08 Avalon XL with out nav and JBL system.
I had new component speakers an amp and sub installed with a LD6i line converter, keeping the original stereo so I could keep the a/c controls. well that was better, but it sucked, so
I recently installed a Pioneer DEH 6100bt (single din no nav) and it greatly improved the sound quality. Just thought we couldnt do double DIN. I would love to replace that stupid screen that show my a/c junk.
got any pics?

thanx

The installer built a new center piece for the Pioneer to contour the shape of the opening. I am not allowed to post pics, but if you send me a private message with your email address, I will be glad to send you some pictures. The pics can explain much better than me.

Regards,
