Avalon Towing Limits???

I have an 08 Avalon, and although I know it's rated to tow 1000lbs, I'd like to bring that up to about 1500-2000; maybe through the use of a trans cooler.

I'm a bit confused how Toyota calculates these limits, considering that the Corolla is rated to tow 1500lbs in stock form. The Avalon has a lot more torque and horsepower. Why is it rated 500lbs less than the Corolla?

Does anyone know what the weak link is in the Avalon that results in such a low towing limit? Any insight would be appreciated.

after owning an 97, a 2000 and an 06.....I'd suggest the issu regading load limit is suspension.... not horse power. my 2000 could easily haul my enclosed trailer. The load limit, if I remember correctly, was 2000lbs. it's certainly not about power or whether or not you have the oil cooler although I'd recomend one. In fact when I investigated the need for an oil cooler for the 2000, I was specifically told it was unecessary because the radiator was so large and efficient, the fans rarely i ever routinely engaged/turned on.

I was considering improving the load capacity of my 06 by adding frame bump-stops to limit frame travel but couldn't find any that seemed to fit properly - I opted to trade the 06 for the new Venza with tow prep and have the 2500lb capacit I wanted..... difference in ride but notat all sorry.....
