Hi guys. I was wondering if somebody installed one of this. I have 05 Avi Limited with navigation.

OEM vs Aftermarket

Does anyone know what the difference is between all the aftermarket adapters and the OEM kit? My local Toyota dealer has the OEM accessory for $186. Depending on which of the kits you look at, it is almost the same cost, or in some cases actually cheaper then aftermarket. On the other hand, if the aftermarket kits give me something the OEM does not, like song title on the NAV display for instance, I would be willing to go aftermarket. I have not called the dealer yet to see if the display works for the OEM kit, just saw it on their web page.

Thanks,

I just installed one in our 06 RAV4....simple install....... ya need to be sure you can install with NAV..... ya may want top call their Tech Support to be sure. TheRAV4 we have has a really base radio with CD changer only, no NAV......song titles don't appear cuz of the Radio's lack of capability.

If your Avy is late model, it may work - my new Venza displays titles in SAT mode and it is a base radio.

FYI....same price from GROM site plus shipping - maybe better to buy from there......

Thanks for the tip. The GROM site indicates it is not compatible with systems with NAV. I think for the extra $50 I will probably just get the OEM adapter after I talk to the dealer to confirm it will work with NAV.

I did the USA SPEC after first trying another brand. USA Spec is built well, but for me the controls are a bit quirky. I've figured out how to get it to do what I want and the sound is wonderful.
