Lexus GS 300 similarities

This morning I was walking out of my Gym, and noticed a very light grey car, alsomost identical to my Touring and thought to myself, I've never seen an Avalon Touring that color. It looked just like my Touring, spolier and all, except for the color and wheel style. So as I moved closer to see, Alas, at 20 feet, I discoved it was a Lexus GS 300. I was shocked, and impressed at the srtrinking similarites to my Avalon Touring. Are they the same car except for trimmings?
Thanks,
Bill

If that were the case then everyone would be driving Avalons.

They are completely different cars.

the GS is not based on the Camry platform like the Avalon. the currenyt one shares the new IS platform (kind of like an altima and maxima)

the avalon is like a luxury camry where the GS is in a leage of its own. Its lexus midsize Touring sedan. 2jz or 1 or 3 uz rwd. more sports car than a camry or avalon could dream of. Its ok though cause i have a camry but i dream of having a gs430 like about an 01

there are huge differences between the two, they are both completly different cars, avalon is a bigger family car type, the new GS 06+ is much sportier, it is smaller on the inside but in general have much better luxury features, (my sister have an 07 avalon limited and the navigation in it is absolute garbage)

The Avalon is a full size sedan while the GS is a mid-size. The GS is much sportier and has the Lexus amenities and 'attention' than the Avalon. Although I do see your point. They look pretty similar especially in the eyes of a lay person, i.e., someone not familiar with the particular difference in vehicle appearance. I was thinking about putting some 06+ GS wheels on my 08 Avalon. We'll see what happens!

you can buy the buttons to turn off stability control and traction control on ebay. I would take an LS over a GS, and given my size - an Avalon over a gs (damn car is too small)

I believe the engine and transmission are the same.
