Air Conditioning Problem

I have an 08 Avalon limited that will not maintain a constant cabin temerature setting, If I set it at 72 degrees on the auto function, it will start rising in temerature up to the high position on a randon, intermittent basis unless I intervine by reseting the temperature. When I take it to the dealer they check out the system and find nothing wrong. I can go several days without a malfunction and then it will fail to maintain a constant temperature three or for time during a 30 minute trip. Has anyone else experienced this problem and found a fix for it?

Sounds like a problem I'm waiting to experience on my '97 BMW convertible.
In BMW case, it's the circuit board on the climate control computer, & an easy fix, now that the world knows exactly which capacitor on the circuit board blows out. Other common fault is a tiny fan (in the same gizmo) that blows cabin air into control & thus lets computer know the cabin temperature. Fan dies, and/or slows due to dust build up.

Since your car probably still under 36k mile warranty, pressure the dealer, bribe the service writer, whatever works.
If out of warranty, I'd look for a whole climate control assembly in wrecking yard, (( it goes in/out as a unit )),
and have it swapped for your existing unit.
Ones for the 05-07 are selling on ebay at about $125, I bet there is no real change for 08.
Hope this helps ......at least somewhat.
