My g/f 2006 Avalon died on the side of the road as a result of a faulty VVTI line. I was unaware of this problem, until after it occured. Toyota won't do anything, since it is over 60K. To bad an oil light didn't come on. I won't purchase another Toyota again.
On a good note my 1996 Toyota Avlon is still running great, they don't seem to make them like they use to. I told my g/f to get her Avalon, since Toyota makes good products, she was stressed from it breaking down.
If anyone here buys an Avalon just make sure you get their crappy VVTI line replaced so you won't have to worry about it, this is a "when", not an "if".
Got off the phone with the dealership the part is about $60, if I knew about this problem, we would have gotten it replaced as soon as I found out. Well I will be buying this for the replacement engine we are getting, so I never have to worry about it.
^ take it into the Dealership and get the TSB done before the rubber hose breaks and starts to leak oil. Getting stranded, calling for a tow-truck and possibly ruining your engine will be more of a headache if you don't get this taken care of.

^^ I just looked at my VIN number, and I don't fall under it. Plus, the Toyota in Hawaii charges an arm and a leg just to even look at your car. I'll keep on the look out for any small drips in my garage.
^ Your rubber hose will still eventually break, just because the TSB doesn't have it for your year Avalon doesn't mean you are safe, as long as you carry the original oil-line with the rubber hose, you are at risk. I had my rubber hose replaced with the "all-metal pipe" as preventative maintenance on my 07 Camry V6.
Yeah, I will def make sure it is the newer one, or i will have a nice talk with the manager.
So I found an engine for $1000, though they can't test it since the wiring harness was burnt in a cabin fire. No mileage read out since that was also in the fire, I am a little skeptical, but they do have a 60day warranty. I also have a friend that is willing to do the labor, I have heard this engine is hard to pull out, is this true?
My mechanic went to get the hose and they sold him the rubber hose. You don't know how pissed I am. They might as well sell duct tape for repairs, it would hold better.
it is sad, i wish Toyota make cars like they use to make 15 years back. i have a 91 camry, that the oldest Toyota i have and that beast runs way better than all my other vehicles. all i have spend on that car for the past 8 years is oil changes , right cv Axel, rear shocks.
