VVTI Line replacement

As I stated in another post my g/f car died from a faulty VVTI line. The dealership says I should replace the VVTI Line and Timing Cover. Since I hear the problem is the VVTI, does the Timing cover have to be replaced?

Thanks in advanced,
Hostage

The Timing Cover needs to be replaced if it is soaked in oil.

Read here for more info.

Warranty ran out? This is suppose to be covered under your 60 months/60,000 mile power-train warranty.

Yeah, to bad this problem usually occurs over 60k miles and we are at about 75k miles. $60 parts in prevention can save you much time, money and frustration. At least I know after I buy this part, Toyota is not going to see anymore $$$ from my family. This is coming from a family that purchases mostly Toyota and Lexus.

I agree, mine 05 Limited had the replacement of the VVTi line done two days ago. 68K miles on it and just began to leak oil. Fortunately, I have the extended 7-years 100k miles warranty so I did not pay a dime.

I agree, it sucks,

Greg

Toyotas are horrible now. They have caused me and my girlfriend so much stress. She just bought the car less than a year ago, she wanted to spend a little extra money to get a "Good car". Now that it seems everyone wants about $4k to replace the engine. We can't really afford to pay for a new engine. I think I will call Toyota's customer experience line and make the person on the other end feel like crap for working at Toyota. Just wait till someone's car dies on railroad tracks and they die since they weren't able to get their child out of the child seat in time. Look how many had to die before the said there was a problem with a floor mat.

need some help from those that have had luck with the upgraded steel line (VVTi line 15772-31030 Pipe Oil No.2) and anyone attempting to get this svc completed.

trying to get local dlr to use upgraded part (above) instead of the "new" rubber hose as specified in TSB
read the all steel line is now factory OEM on all '09 Avalon as well as prev + current Highlander and RAV4 with 2GRFE engine and that Lexus models only have steel line (therefore not included in TSB).

Why is local dlr insistant on only using TSB part? Seems all steel line is a long term solution to this problem. Dlr will not negotiate. difference in price of part over TSB rubber hose =$28. As I understand the labor charge is same (1.0 hr R+R)?

thanks to all for your help
