Newbie - looking to buy a 2008 Touring

Hello to the Forum!

I just joined since I am looking at buying a 2008 Touring model with 34k miles.

Are there any major reliability issues or expensive repair items that are somewhat common with this make/model?

I understand the bumper-to-bumper warranty is 36k miles. What other warranty is there (ie engine and/or powertrain)?

5yr/60k powertrain I believe.

Still trying to find out if the VVTI line problem is just on the 05/06 that have service campaign to fix, or if it also is going ot be a problem on the 07-on, and toyota just hasnt issued a bulletin for it.

I purchased a 2008 Touring with 26,000 miles on it in August. The only problem I've had is a tire pressure module had to be replaced under warranty. The light kept coming on, but the pressures were ok. Great car. I really like mine. Good luck. I am also trying to find out about the oil line in a 2008, but so far, nothing.

Thanks all. Well I drove it today. The mileage was really 39k miles - I was dissapointed. I can no longer get the extended bumper-to-bumper warranty. It also had a scratched up front passenger side cowling (plus a few other dings). The battery terminals were pretty corroded AND the mpg read out was at 5.5 (not sure if that is an issue, but I expected it to read in the 20's).

I offered $16.5k for it and was turned down. They countered w/ $18.7k which torqued me because the newspaper add stated $18.4.

We'll see what they say. It drove nice!

Oh BTW - I read on another Forum that the design of the VVTI line was changed in 2008. I did not see any proof of it though.

Thanks for the info on the oil line for 2008's. That's encouraging.

FYI. I paid $20,500 in August for mine with 26.000 miles on it. Seemed like a fair deal to me at the time. Still feels that way after 3 months and 5000 miles.
