Question timing chain/belt

Does the third generation (2005 +) avalon engine have a timing chain or a timing belt? If a chain is there any maintenance required at mileage intervals. Is this an interference engine?

Is there a metal oil supply tube available for the third generation VVT or is the replacement still rubber and metal?

Much thanks in advance,

Dean

I don't know about your second question, but your first one, I believe it is a Timing Chain, though not 100% sure, sorry. Your owners manual should tell you, in the maintenance section. If it is a chain all you need to do is make sure that you change the oil, regularly since that is the lubrication for the chain, other than that, you need not worry about it (this is one of the reasons timing chains are better than belts, IMO) Hope this helps.

The chain guides (called "slipper" and "damper" by Toyota) are wear items and will not last forever, but I did not find any specific replacement mileage recommendation.

An all-metal VVT oil line is available from Toyota and is used on recent model year vehicles with this engine. However, Toyota dealers almost universally recommend staying with whatever style oil line your vehicle was fitted with by the factory. You can find both a picture of the all-metal line and the Toyota part number by searching recent message threads on this forum.

Timing Chain

I've never seen a maintenence item for a timing chain.
They're good for a few hundred thousand miles.

No... Toyota generally does not make interference engines.
You want one of those buy a Honda (( LOL ))

YES... all the Avalon engies are the same, and the "new" all metal oli line will fit any 2005 -2009 engine.
