Latest Navagation Map Update

I just received a post card from Toyota offering the latest nav map update for "only $199." I'd love to update the '07 map, but not at that price. Anyone know of anything cheaper?

The newer maps have removed the override on a lot of toyotas. I'll bet this one does too.

I did a little research and the 9.1 doesn't have the override, but the 8.1 does. Do you have any links to the 9.1 problems? My understanding is that it's just an update on the maps.

There's a guy online who burns update cd's and the 8.1 = $60; 9.1 = $80. It may be worth it for the $60 as I don't want to lose the override.

When you say override do you mean the you don't have to press ok when I first start the car?

Override as in, menu, dvd, up down up down left right, override, press and hold enter until override changes color. So you can use all the gps features while moving.

I just installed the 2009 DVD in my '06 Avalon and found that this sequence no longer works! It gets you to the page but when the OVERRIDE is selected and Enter held down it doesn't get you into override mode. I'm hoping someone can contradict me, but that's what I've found.

Anyone know of a new sequence?

I believe the Gen 2/3-09 DVD is the one... just like mine. Call a dealer to be sure, as they are non-returnable. I'm looking at my invoice and see that the list price is $199 and that's what Longo Toyota sold it for. Another dealer quoted $275 or something like that.

I put it in myself:

1. Put the key to Acc
2. Take out the trunk floor mat and spare tire cover
3. Lift up the cover over the NAV computer in the left rear corner. You don't have to remove the entire side panel for this.
4. Slide the locking tab to the open position
5. Push a little on the DVD drive door, causing the disk to come out.
6. Remove it and slip the new one in.
7. Slide the locking tab back.

Then go up front and bring up Menu on the screen. Click on DVD. It will show Version 9.01 You will most likely have to restablish your geographic region.

I don't know if there is something else the should be done since I'm not privy to the installation service bulletin. Everything seems to work except the secret Override stuff.

BTW, it looks like Starbucks is no longer in POI list!

Just a word to the wise: I purchased an updated NAV DVD from a member in this forum. It worked intermittently and sometimes not at all. I reinserted my old one - the original that came with the car - and it worked fine. I spent $60.00.

Possible Book Type issues

That is too expensive considering initial cost, labor and shipping. Sometimes the burn needs to be as slow as possible and Book Type set for DVD-ROM. Make a copy of the one you have. Your computer will read it. Image it to your hard drive, then write it to a new DVD+R DL at the slowest possible speed and set the Book Type to DVD-ROM. I use Nero.

Gen5 V10.1

The Override is not in the new Gen5 V10.1 disc, I use a Lockpick2WF from Coastaltech for the override. Works well

Wonder why they don't have the Avalon listed in their site.
