The engine power in the 05 and 06-10 is identical actually. The way horse power is reported was changed by the SAE. 05 quoted 280 but was revised to 268 for the newer model based upon the changes SAE implemented for reporting power. Everything is the same engine wise no matter what the 05 was originally quoted as.

im debating the Infiniti M45 and the Avalon Limited.
different cars i know, and different price rangers...but both have their pros and cons...anyone have any thoughts on teh M?
The Avalon is front wheel drive, the M - rear
The Avalon runs like a scalded animal on 87 octane fuel, the M requires 92 octane
Not certain of this but I'm pretty sure the M's insurance rates are going to be higher than the Avalon's
and lastly...
If you bought the M you'd miss out on the angst of unintended acceleration!

Assuming this is the end of the line, for awhile, of Toyota ignoring their customers......
All this flap will do ((aside from saving hundreds of lives that should never have been at risk)) will be to ruin Toyota used-car values for a year or three.
All the better for me, since I'm getting ready to buy an '08 -part of the recall- and sell an '00 - great rep, no recall.
All the better for the OP, who will see a bigger gap in pricing between the Avalon and the M.

Reason: sense
yep, ive decided on the Avalon guys, thanks for all the advice...now comes which model.
XLS, Touring, or Limited.
My mom has an '01 XLS, awesome car, i feel like the newer ones are even better (and better looking)...whats the differences again?
If you go to the Toyota website and select the Avalon you'll see an option where you can compare it to other cars. Just select the Avalon for each of the other cars selecting the XL, XLS and Limited. Then you'll see the differences between them - including pricing.
If I can suggest something that worked really well for me - build your car online. Build it exactly the way you want it and then request quotes from nearby Toyota dealerships (don't be afraid to choose one far away if you have to). Then wait to see what they quote you. Within 30-minutes I got a response saying that they had the very car I was looking for on their lot and their price was over $4000 below the sticker price. It's worth trying out. You won't be under any obligation to follow through either.
Good luck, good choice - let us know how it turns out!
