to Toyota Nation! I'm moving your thread to the Avalon forum so the members there can help you out. BTW, you should use the Avalon forum's search tool to find other threads that may have already been posted about your issue. Good luck!

If this is an air/fuel sensor, located in the exhaust manifold (bank 1 I believe is the rear manifold), you should call me. I "may" be able to save you a bunch of money (and I'm not Geico). Sorry, couldn't resist. 218-731-2186 after 5:00.

This information of from section 5, 2005 Avalon factory repair manual.

Bank 1 - 3 cylinders nearest the firewall
Bank 2 - 3 cylinders nearest the grille

Sensor 1: Air-fuel ratio sensor for closed-loop fuel trim, threaded into the exhaust manifolds.
Sensor 2: residual oxygen sensor, threaded into the exhaust pipes just before they merge under the engine.

I just had this done, and it costs me $100.00. The original design puts the sensor in a bad location, and they fail, so Toyota redesigned the exhaust manifold, and they want you to pay for their mistake. I was told that they cover them to 36K miles. I had just over that, and I filed a complaint, stating that since this was a redesign, Toyota obviously admits that it is a bad design, and that it should be covered. Besides that, isn't the exhause manifold a valuable part of the engine, which is drivetrain, which is covered to 60K!They ran it by their "regional rep", and came back to me and said that Toyota would like me to "participate in the cost"! I laughed and said, sure, I'll pay $100.00 (figuring the sensor alone would have been at least that much).
Be nice, knowledgable, and firm, and I will be surprised if they don't cover it.

see this thread:

What a crock of sh*t - TSB exhaust manifold

I have the same issue, and was quoted $1675.00 plus tax.

They called me back today and they will cover the entire repair. free of charge.

Call Toyota 1-800-331-4331 option number 4 (it's a long wait due to the recall) make a claim, they will forward all your info to the dealer. The Customer Relationship Manager at your dealer has 3 days to contact you.

Explain to them the issue, and hopefully they will cover it.
It should be covered if your not to far out of warranty and not many miles on it and you have all work done there at the dealer.

It was a design change of the manifold and it should be covered.

Fight for it.

Greg
