I had the recall work done. The gas pedal looks crap after they cut it down in size. I do believe that Toyota should replace the pedal instead of a mechanic Cutting and grinding on it. Looks very unprofessional.
I did notice the gas pedal to be more sensitive after the brake override software change. The car seems to have more power meaning when you take off from a red light it it accelerates much quicker. My wife noticed this without me asking her about it. Something is different ......
I did not get new floor mats. I guess they just put smaller padding in.
In summary,
.1 Brake pedal was resized and looks like crap.
.2 The pad was repaced under the carpet; did not get new floor mars. .3 Brake override software was installed; this caused my 2007 Avalon XLS to be more sensitive on takeoff which I do like.
.4 The oil hose was replaced with a rubber hose with kevlar built into yhe hose per service manager.
I love my 2007 Toyota Avalon XLS but .. we have to get pass all this bad publicity. The media is pounding Toyota. Remember, Toyota is a NON UNION company and this is a big reason that the left side of Congress is attacking Toyota. The big 3; UAW; Toyota #1 and NON UNION...... This is a political scandel more than a actual problem IMO/
smackman, How did you know theres a brake override software upgrade on your car?I tried to check mine on the toyota website but all i have for my 2010 is the pedal and carpet fix.Thanks.

Make an appointment and say you want the brake override system installed. It's free. The list of vehicles has been in multiple press releases. You might get something in the mail soon as well, I'm not sure.
"The following year models have been added to the list of vehicles which will receive brake override upgrade: 2005-2010 Tacoma, 2009-2010 Venza and 2008-2010 Sequoia. Toyota previously announced that the system would be installed onto the 2007-2010 Camry, 2005-2010 Avalon, and the 2007-2010 Lexus ES 350, 2006-2010 IS 350 and 2006-2010 IS 250 models."

"The left side of congress..."? Excuse me? That whole paragraph seems like pure conjecture. Did you miss the part where internal emails clearly showed that Toyota not only knew of an issue for years but decided, for pure business reasons, to NOT voluntarily recall the cars due to the incredible financial loss. They made the decision that we, and our passengers, could pay the price "IF" something happened. Damned right that congress and the media are attacking Toyota - they deserve it.
But at least you added the disclaimer that your paragraph was 'in your opinion'. I just gave you mine.

My letter from Toyota about the Recalls included the brak override "flash of the ECM" and the service manager explained all the Recall work to me.
I have a good dealership. My only negative of the recall work is the "new" look of the smaller pedal. Looks like a 10 year old worked on it. I believe they should totally replace the pedal instead of grinding it to a smaller size.
I do like my cars new acceleration on take off from a dead stop. It is much smoother and very quick acceleration.

Cool! I will say I believe Toyota and Mr. Toyoda are being rode "hard and long" over issues that many other car companied also have. Watch and see in the next year! Look at Nissan and its recalls. Ford also has a big recall etc. etc.
The left are trying to make a example out of Toyota to help the big 3 but in the end Toyota will rise up and be #1 soon IMO.
I am American thru and thru. I bought American brand cars until I got my 1st "Rice burner" in 1996 a Nissan 200sx for my daughter. Then a 1997 Nissan Maxima GLE and the rest is history. The Nissans and Toyota's are the best cars I have ever owned and I still believe this. I have looked at the Buick Lacrosse. Does it match up with the Avalon?

Yeah im not sure if i'm gonna let them do the pedal grinding either.I'll wait for a new design or denso brand.
I havent received the recall letter yet but i would like the brake override installed.Just curious, did the technician or service guy showed you how the software works? Im hoping the brake override is the real deal and not a placebo fix. Thanks again.

No, they did not. Surely, It is not a "placebo". I still believe this is a great company with a with a recall that is being "over exposed" to help the Big 3.
I believe my Toyota is ONE FINE CAR.
It may not be classified as a luxury car BUT to me and the wife it is "close". Loving my 2007 Toyota Avalon XLS.
Toyota will take care of its customers. I would not hesitate to buy another Toyota product.
take a picture of the pedal if you can. i think i am going to pass on the pedal trim, i guess i was under the impression toyota trimmed the pedal and put on a smaller rubber pedal cover. our car is going in next week for the recalls.
The flashing of the ECM/ECU does not work. While driving my car to the dealership to get the recalls done. I pressed on the gas until I reached 50mph, and at the same time while pressing the gas, I step on the brakes. I can hear the engine roaring as I continued to press on the brakes. The car slowed down a little, but not much. after I reached the dealership I asked the service technician/advisor how will the reflashing of the ecm/ecu affect the response of the brake/gas pedal when pressed at the same time, and he said that the brakes would override the gas pedal, and would stop the car. Well, after the recalls were done on my car, I was given my keys, and was about to be sent on my way. Before I left I inspected the car's gas pedal, and all I could think of is what "a fu_ked up job" on my gas pedal, and then noticed a rip in my carpet. I called the service advisor and told him that my carpet being ripped is unacceptable. The manager came out and said he was sorry, and explain the process of removing the matting from under the carpet. They ordered me a new peice of carpet for my driver side flooor pan.As I began to leave I was steamed. I drove it home and performed the same test. The car did the exact same thing, and did not stop, or override the gas pedal. So, when I got home I called the dealership, and spoke with a service advisor. I told him that the fix don't work, and then he passed me to his manager's voicemail. I left a message, and still to this day I have not heard back from anyone. So, when I return for my carpet relacement I will have it out with someone at the dealership. My conclusion is the ECM/ECU reflashing does not work. I called the Keep in mind until there is a good fix you still may have a unintened acceleration problem.
