Trunk Release

Is there a setting or a programmable feature to kill the trunk release while the car is in gear? I went to put up my rear sunshade and opened the trunk by mistake. I was only on my street going a few mph, so it was not a big deal to stop and close it. Just annoying.

There wasn't one that I could find when I did the same thing (only I was going down the freeway at 70-MPH!).

Now I'm extra cautious when I push the button for the window shade!

Yea, its in a bad spot, next to the trunk and fuel release. My old cars had it on the door by the mirror controls, or on the center console.

I'm amazed that Toyota didn't program it so it wouldn't work when the car is in gear.

In my XLS glove compartment there's a switch (button) that if I activate it, it disables the trunk release and prevents it from opening, This is also good for security when parking your car in a lot, it prevents the
car lot guy from having access to the the trunk.
If you haven't been using this, check it out.

there is a switch located in the glove box of the 05-07 avalons to disable the trunk release. I am not sure about the 08-10.

Yes, I know there's a button in the glove box to kill it. That button is pointless as it disables trunk access completely, No switch, no remote, no button by the tail light for the release with the smart key. I still want access to the trunk, I just think its stupid the trunk can be opened while the car is in gear.

Interesting. I only disable the trunk from the glovebox on long trips so I never noticed that it kills everything including the button in the back. Thanks for that heads up.
