I've used mine for business travel and just fill up with the least expensive that I can find at the time. I've never noticed a difference from one brand to the next.

I've never done sufficient testing between brands to have an opinion about mpgs or which is better. I basically use Shell, Valero, Murphy, and Exxon. That's what's around me. The thing that puzzles me is the difference in octane ratings. We live in Arkansas and travel west at least a couple of times a year. The manual for my '08 says 87 octane; however, when you get west the regular grade is 86 or 85. First, why is that? Is it altitude? Secondly, should I use the middle grade to get at least 87 or can you use the lower octane of the regular? I've tried both ways and on a good steady drive get 30+ mpg regardless of what I use and without knocking when going up hill.
everything here is blended ethanol.. our avalon seems to not be so picky, i have tried to compare bp, shell, mobil and speedway, but havent seen much of a difference. we usually use speedway, as it is the closest and cheapest for us. just my opinion.
I use regular 87 octane, no pinging or loss of mileage.
personaly i think brand has very little impact on quality overall. i have been filling cheap "crappy" brand fuel for past 7 years without giving up performance or mileage. even my high compression motorcycle is happy with cheap gas.
Interesting... Thanks to all for the replys. I really love my Avalon, but won't be putting any cheap gas in it unless I absolutely have too. Just my preference.

So after repeated responses about how cheap gasoline seems to have no noticeable effect on Avalons - you're still opting to spend more than you need to? Help me understand why you bothered to ask the question to begin with.
Here's why Tom. While its true that cheap gas (seems) to have no effect on the Avalon's, I won't be taking the chance that something may happen in the future. I'm just not a risk taker with a 35k plus automobile. If others choose to use cheap gas, thats up to them. The reason I asked the question is very simple. Many of the cars and trucks I've owned in the past have given different mileage when changing brands of gasoline. I can't speak for the rest of the nation, but here in Chicago we don't have the best gas. If brands of gas have no effect on the Avalon, it will be the first car I've owned thats happened to. Simple question....Simple answers. Again, Thanks to all.
