Wiring Help! - Backup Camera Install -

I am installing a NavTool with a locksmith minicam into my 2010 Avalon. At this point, I have the following:

1. 12V AC from NavTool Unit - connected to Gray wire (thickest) on the back of the Nav Unit
2. Ground from NavTool - connected to the screw on the Nav Unit's mount
3. 12V AC from Camera - connected to the same Gray Wire
4. Ground from Camera - connected to the screw on the Nav Unit's mount

This should have done the trick but I get no picture on my screen (GPS still works but no camera)

I was told by NavTool tech support to connect another wire labeled 12V Camera (from the NavTool Unit) to my reverse light.

Where is the "Reverse light" wire?
I have searched through the posts and found some good install instructions but these were for a 2005 Avalon. Not sure these will be the same on the 2010.

Has anyone installed a backup camera to a 2010 Avalon? If so, can you help?

Tap in near the reverse light. There should be a 12v+ red wire in the reverse light harness that goes to the reverse lights. Thats where my backup cam is tapped I believe. Though you can probably tap any one of the positive wires in that diagram if you can find them in the trunk harness.

It would be the same as far as you having to connect the 12V camera wire to your reverse light wire going to your reverse light bulb. Find which of the two wires give your +12V to you reverse light bulb and connect to that wire. This is what will make the monitor switch to the backup camera when you put the car in reverse

Camera Setup - Still no luck with NavTool 2010 Avalon

Guys,

Thanks for the help. I found the the red wire coming from the trunk but still no luck after connecting it to the 12v Camera wire (blue wire from the NavTool).

I'm starting to think I either have a bad camera or a bad NavTool unit.
If anyone is done a similar setup, please let me know if I am missing something.
I now have:

1. Gray from back of Nav Unit connected to 12V from NavTool
2. All ground wires on screw that connects to chassis (from Nav Unit mount)
3. Blue wire from NavTool (labeled 12V Camera) to Red wire from harness coming from the trunk (reverse light)

Any thoughts?

Do you have a meter or test light? Have an assistant start the car and put it in reverse. See if you actually have 12+ on the wire you tapped. If you have good grounds and a good reverse source, I'd suspect the unit itself.

I don't think the gray wire on the Nav connector is correct. You might want to try the 2005 Nav wire colors.
Accessory +12V BLUE wire, Pin 18
Reverse +12V - BLACK wire, pin 14.

Did I miss something?
I don't see any mention of a connection of the video from the camera which I think should be going to M17 Connector of the Navigation unit

The NavTool interface should have an RCA jack for the camera video (as should the camera). An ordinary shielded video RCA male-male patch cord is used to connect the two.

Made it work - Camera Install in 2010 Avalon

Inov8 was right, the gray cable was not the 12V. The NavTool tech support rep gave me bad information.

For all of those that are with the same problem, the Nav unit 18 pin connectors are the same for the 2005 and 2010 Avalons.

Got it working this morning.

Once again, thanks Inov8!
