transmission - key fob

Does the 09 Avalon have the CVT(constant variable) transmission like the Nissans? A Goodyear tecnician recently told me it has the CVT and Toyota puts in shift points to make it appear to shift? Is this BS?

Also I have noticed that at city speed when I let off the gas is seems to not coast freely but acts like it's using the transmission to slow down...my imagination?

Lastly, can a Toyota dealership create a fob for the smart key system?

Much thanks...this is a great forum....

Toyota doesnt make any CVT that I'm aware of. Unless they licensed it from Nissan. Nissan did after all license hybrid synergy from Toyota.

cvt

There is no way you can make shift points. That dude is a dumbass and a disgrace to the GOODYEAR name. I know a lot of GY techs, that are personal friends.

The only cvt transaxles Toyota currently produces are in the hybrid models. Since there arent any avalon hybrids as of yet......... I think your friend is mistaken.

newer toyota does use engine braking in certain condition. When going down hill fast, if you apply brake, the car will downshift to gain better braking.

As for the key fob, as long as you have $, the dealership can do pretty much everything for you
