key fob

I recently purchased a used 2009 Avalon from a Toyota dealership. It was delivered with only 1 key fob. Has the push button start feature so it needs the fob with the built in mechanical key for emergency entry and to lock the glove box.

I am getting the run around at the dealer..seems like they are trying to find a used fob to marry it to my car...so if they can do this what about the mechanical key? My question is what is the proper way for the dealer to get a new fob with the correct mechanical key? Is this possible or am I out of luck? Dealer has promised me one.

They should be able to order you a new one directly from Toyota with a blank key and have the mechanical key laser cut to match.

yeah, the key fob doesn't matter. they'll just program it to your car. but they will cut a key to match the one you have. i was in the same boat when i bought my car, it only came with one key.

I too just bought an '08 LTD that only had one fob. For some reason previous owners seem not to turn in both units. I made it a condition of the sale that two fobs would come with the car. We have 2 fobs now but the key (according to the dealer) is laser cut and needs to come from Toyota and will be mailed to me. I'm happy with that.

Those smart key units cost something like $200 if you need to buy one on your own.
