Throttle linkage play

I just bought an 06 Avalon and have noticed a fair bit of play in the throttle pedal. I have to push the peddle down almost and inch or so before the engine responds. It is very akward driving with this because the car always wants to take off quickly because of this. Is there any adjustment in the throttle linkage on these cars or the TPS ? If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.

Thank you !!

Its not a mechanical linkage. Its electronic drive by wire.

Is there any way to take that play out ? Do all late model Avalon's have this sloppy throttle ?

I'm not sure if there's any way to adjust the pedal or electronics. I know you have to press it some to get it to respond initially. I dont think its an inch on mine, but I never really paid attention. My last car was drive by wire as well.
