Recall: Reflashed ECM

Part of the pedal recall was what is listed as Reflashed ECM. I thought that this would allow the car to stop when you pushed on the brakes at the same time the accelerator was being pushed while going highway speeds. I had this done today and tried to test it. While going 70 mph I stepped on the brakes and nothing really happened with regards to the motor. What is supposed to happen? Or, do I not understand what the reprograming is supposed to do?

It only works if you fully apply the brakes and the gas is at wide open throttle from what I understand.

You'd need to bury the gas pedal in the floor and mash the brakes to the floor while keeping it floored to really test it.

What is supposed to happen is when you are driving (let's say 70) and you press the brake the car will slow as if you are not pressing the throttle. The car will slow and the engine will not rev and the brakes will not be fighting the gas. If you have the throttle pressed and just step on the brake for a second, nothign will happen.

It works on my Camry. I tested it when it was first installed. Went from 60 to 40 with the brake and gas pressed. Just don't do like I did and release the brake and forget you are still holding the gas down as the car took off on my like a rocket. But it worked properly.

Thanks for the explanations everyone. I guess I wasn't going all the way with the test. Anyway, I got all the recalls done and I'm glad that's over. I had the new gas pedal installed and didn't keep the hack job.
