All-Metal vvt-i Oil Line incompatible??

I was told by a dealer's tech that the all-steel external vvt-i oil line on the 2010 and 2011 Avalons will not work on earlier (05-09) models. Supposedly, on earlier models top and bottom fittings were the same size, while on solid 10-11 version, the banjo fitting at the top is now different size and leaks.

Can anyone confirm or deny this? My car has had the recall & has the new rubber hose on the oil line, but I would feel so much better if there were no rubber hose there.

My dealer used the all metal Lexus part for my 2008 Touring. The peace of mind cost me $100.

Stoneybroke....
Coincidence rules - I also have an '05 Touring.
Can you do me a favor? Pull the invoice, & give me the part number for the oil-line they used?
I figured the guy was blowing smoke from the way he clinched his fingers together so hard.
Still.. made them lower price on car by that same $100, so I'm even, except for the time.
(( BTW... Was that a Toyota dealer that did the work? I'm near Wilmington, are you anywhere near Philly?; Might want to use the same dealer. ))
Thanks!

Riick: Lexus part number is 15772-31030. I got the part number from another forum that discussed problems with Avalon engines. My dealer is in Dubois, PA. I belive the new Rav4 uses a all metal line also. I bought my 08 Touring last June. I've had 4 recalls, aluminum trim peeling off of the console, and more wind noise than my truck. I've purchased 7 new Toyotas since 1990, but they need to get their mojo back if they want to keep me.

I thought all 2008 + had the metal line??? My XLS does and I believe it rolled off the production line 6/08 and I purchased it 7/08.

I intend to spend a little money and get rid of the metallic interior trim in favor of wood-grained. There are kits on Ebay for between $160 and $225.
I installed a kit just like this on my 2000 XL in 2003 or so; it's looked great for years, but has shown some sun-fading recently.

As for wind noise, haven't noticed anything yet, and hopefully won't.
They have double seals at doors, and even hood, wind noise should not be an issue! Wonder if doors mis- mounted - are gaps at door edges even, or do they taper?

My 08 was produced in April of 08 and subject to the oil line recall. I'll have to check actual door alignment. Service manager told me that they replaced the door seals last week. I don't think they did anything to the doors , since the service order just shows the order for aluminum trim for console. Incidentally, they have to get the whole trim package from Toyota. ($450 retail) The aluminum trim is just paper glued on. They are too cheap to use .015 aluminum shim stock.

After my 2000 was sideswiped, and body shop fixed the damage, it was never as quiet as it had been....Wind noise.
Aluminum Trim package sounds like the vinyl one avail on Ebay at under $30.

Just occurred to me.. if they changed out the door seals you would probably be smelling the adhesive for a day or two, and/or if you pulled a bit away from metal, again the adhesive would smell.
Any petroleum smells in car??
