06 Touring Power Locks Issue

It started with just one of my rear passenger doors where it would not open by hitting the remote unlock twice where as the other doors would unlock with no problem. I just went out to my car to get something and found that now none of my doors except the drivers side will unlock using the remote. I have to reach back and manually unlock them now.

Two questions:

A) Has anyone replaced or repaired the internal actuators themselves and how hard was that and if so do you have any documentation/website that has pix?
B) Has anyone taken it to the dealership and how much was it?

I am starting to dread the fact that I’m at 85K and stuff is starting to fail…

Do they all unlock if you hit unlock on the door controls?

Can you LOCK all 4 doors with the remote?

If any actuators have failed, you should not be able to lock or unlock that door with either the remote or driver's switch.

If some actuators seem OK during the above tests, but will not work with the remote, I would try replacing the remote battery. Perhaps it is near end-of-life and cannot muster enough power for two successive transmissions.

The service manual indicates the actuators are integrated into the door lock assemblies.

Thx for the replies; I just went outside and checked and it's just the rear two doors and they twitch when I used the switch on the drivers door but remain locked.

This leads me to think that it's not a fuse or electrical issue because the signal is getting there but a mechanical issue.

There isn't any abnormal binding or resistance when you unlock it manually with your fingers is there?

I agree - likely a mechanical issue.
New lock assemblies are ~$215 each at Totota-parts.com. How do you feel about removing the door trim to access and inspect the lock assembly?

Perhaps some lubricant would help. If you apply some pressure to the manual unlocking lever to assist the actuator, will it then work? Yes would be an indication that reducing the friction might help.

Again, thank you all for your help with this.

i called the dealership and they quoted me $800 before tax to replace the two rear. i would rather try and do it myself so that when the front ones go (and they will) I can do those as well.

Does anyone have instructions or pix? has anyone done this before or can rate the difficulty level?

Looks like Kragen has them but why would one side be more than the other?

I would expect the right side to be a mirror-image of the left, so different prices seem suspicious to me.
I'll try to post the factory (2005) repair manual instructions for door panel and lock assembly removal tonight.

I could understand if F and R were different, but it seems really odd that RR and RL are a different price.

Child safety locks don't effect the unlocking of the doors with the remote or front control panel. Only opening a rear door from the inside.
