Thumbs up remote to keyless ignition

Hi , my name is Eryc and I’m brand new to this forum(lurked around for it a bit). I have not done any introduction to TN but I might as well make my first post here since most likely i will be posting in this forum specifically. It’s great that there’s a forum dedicated to 3G Avalons and I should’ve signed up for this a long time ago.

I own a 2005 Avalon limited edition and it’s been the best car I’ve owned. I bought it two years ago(Feb-2008) from work(used to be company car) and it had 63K miles on it. It was driven a lot by the previous owner. I'm today now at 99k miles and she is still running fine.

Anyways I came for your help. I got keyless ignition on my car and lately the remote hasn't been functioning correctly. I'm assuming that the battery on the remote has died. This morning i couldn't start the car because it was not recognizing the remote. I gave up after a few tries and took my sisters car to work. I did some browsing at work and i found out that the vehicle can be started if i put the remote near the button start, fob and push button. As soon as i got home i tried it out and it worked.

how do i go about the remotes? do the batteries need to be changed? do i need to get a replacement? Is there a thread about this? I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to rush to the dealer and get it done because they always hurt my wallet.

sorry for the shitty grammar and i hope my post isn't tl;dr.

Cheers!
-eryc

From what you're describing it is most likely the battery in the key fob that needs replacing. Go to a place that sells batteries. What you're looking for is a round silver disk battery (I believe it's #2032). Pry open the key fob (there's an opening where a dime will fit in. Pull out the old battery, put in the new one and you're done.

Hey im always curious with this question....

What if you throw out the keyless fob for the keyless ignition out the window (for whatever reason) and you are driving city or highway, what would happen to your car?

thanks for the advice. waiving the key around the button worked but as soon as i put the down keys somewhere i get key light on the dashboard but i was able to drive anywhere so it was fine.

i just came back from radioshack and bought those batteries. It was real simple to open up key fob and replace the old batts. I'm glad i asked here first. thanks!

Edit:
The battery was #1632
