Still more recalls/TSBs going on?

Our local Toyota dealership just called my gf about her grandma's 2005 Avalon. They said they need to check the floor mats and something about the car's software, I'm guessing the brake override feature. I swear she got a letter last year about the floor mats and I thought they checked it when we brought it in for the VVT-i oil line LSC along with the gas pedal. We removed the carpeted mats and installed Toyota OEM all-weather mats, which are securely clipped in.

Have you guys already had this done? I'm just hoping we won't have to bring it in again after this and be short one car for the day. The car has 29K miles and has been to Toyota two or three times already for recalls/TSBs.

Actually - if you installed the Toyota all-weather mats, the kind that has 'ribs' - they've been recalled. Toyota will replace them with a newer design. The new ones aren't as nice as the older ones.

Sigh. What do the new ones look like? We have the ones you are talking about, in the car right now. I think those are heavier than the OEM all-weather mats I have in my Camry.

BTW I stopped off at Toyota to grab oil filters and ask about what specifically will be done. The guy said they're shaving the gas pedal. We're gonna push them to replace it with a Denso pedal - I think one TSB mentioned that being an alternative. The pedal feels different already after that reinforcement car went in and IMO it's a smaller pedal as-is so I don't like the idea of them shaving it. We'll see how that goes.

The new floor mats, viewed from the side, are only about a 1/2-inch in depth. In hindsight I wouldn't have allowed them to swap the ones I bought with the new version. After I got the pedal shaved there was no way in hell that the pedal would come anywhere near the floor mat.

I wonder if those are similar to the ones I have in my Camry. It's significantly thinner than the ones in the Avalon. Time to swap the carpeted mats back in before we drop the car off at Toyota. Thanks for the heads up. The mats do not slide under the gas pedal and I clipped them in securely with the factory hooks.
