Toyota Recall Fix No Results

Well, after the first recall to add the metal plate behind the accelerator pedal, the hard shifting, hesitation, high idle speed and lunging still occurs. Did the fix back in April and after 1500 milles, still the same problem as before. Now the floor mats is being recalled? When the news broke about he floor mats, we dumped our Toyota mats in the driver's side as it kept slipping beneath the gas and brake pedal even with the ends clipped in. The mechanic at the dealer says the computer needs to be reflashed and/or replaced but can't do it without charging us couple hundred bucks to reflash and couple thousand to repalce the computer.

Anyone had success with the recall fixes?

Placing the shim behind the accelerator pedal would have nothing to do with hard shifting, hesitation or lunging (that I can correlate).

The shim was part of the unintended acceleration issue, as is the reflash of the computer and the shaving of the pedal and recall of the rubber Toyota floormats.

If the reflash your dealer is saying must be done is as a result of the massive recall - there is no cost to you. Nor is there any cost for any other work that is recall related. If you go in and complain about the tranny shifting funny there is a reflash to fix that as well.

But if your dealer is saying it'll cost you to reflash it to fix something other than recall work - then THAT might cost you.

I've had all the recall work done on mine and have no real issue with any of it - other than the pedal looks a bit funny and the new rubber mats they provided aren't as substantial as the ones that were recalled.
