Windshield

Wow is a new windshield for this car expensive. I picked up a big rock on the highway, split my windshield half way up, crack from the very edge all the way to the middle. I was thinking about just paying for it out of pocket to avoid claiming it on my insurance. Until that is, I called a couple dealers to see the stupid thing was ~1250 dollars, plus some trim, plus labor.

I went through what you've just experienced. The best price I found was through Safelite. It was $480.00 installed.

...and then, three weeks later, I got yet another rock chip. One of these days I'll get around to fixin' it.

Yea, my windshield deductible is only 100 bucks. Well worth it.

Yea, I seem to recall the Limited listing the Acoustic noise-reducing front windshield as a feature over the other trim levels, at least in 08 when I got my XLS. I test drove them all on a busy freeway before purchasing and got to say that I didn't really notice a difference in noise.
With this being said, I am sure there are several windshields to choose from and I am sure prices will vary; I am not saying to buy a cheap windshield, but I believe there are options.

Go to any dealer's parts department and tell them you want an acoustic windshield - you'll get a blank stare back from whomever is working the counter. When I explained it they said they never heard of it.

I've got a plain ol' replacement windshield installed in my car. I don't notice any difference.

That's something I hate too. What is that Acoustic noise-reducing front windshield? What happened if we need to replace the windshield on our limited? How do we know it is noise-reducing windshield.

I used Safelite twice on my Sienna. Pretty good and fast service. Arranged by my insurance company, they came to my house. Very easy.

I'm on my third windshield with my '08 Avalon Ltd. My insurance company gave me a list of places to go, I chose one, and got the Noise-Reducing Windshield without any questions. I have $100 deductible.

The noise-reducing front windshield is simply thicker than the standard.

I got it replaced this morning. They put in the thicker noise reducing windshield. Only took about 30 min in the office parking lot. It doesnt say toyota on it, but it does say lamisafe, and has the same oem style black dots by the mirror.
