How to program a Smart Key Remote

I have a 05 Avalon Limited with Smart Key Remote.
We lost one remote and I got an used one online. It seems to be working ok because, I see the blinking light from the remote.
I think you can take it to the dealer and have time reprogram the remote, of course $$$.
Just want to see if anyone if it is possible to program the remote myself. thanks

As far as I know only the dealer can reprogram.

Yup. The Imobiliser needs to be programmed first then the smart-keyless system.
You say you lost it, Just for shits and giggles try this. open you door have car shut off and put your key in front of the car bumper on the ground, ie out of smart key range. Now get back in the car and see if you can start it. If you can then your lost key in in your car. Most likely place is between the seat and the center console or under one of the seats. I find them here all the time when customers come in with smart system complaints.

I purchased a 2009 Limited, with a smart key, it only had one remote, so I purchased an additional one on ebay. I went to the dealership to have them install a factory remote start. Only $400 labor included, and they tried to program the remote (not knowing I purchased it on ebay). They told me the remote came from another car and could not be reprogrammed and offered to sell me one for 350 plus programming fee. I told them I would wait. On monday I contacted a local locksmith who said he could reprogram the additional remote for $50( couldnt so I didnt have to pay). He tried and failed but referred me to another locksmith. I took it to him today and he had the same equipment as the first, but this guy knew what he was doing. He said we had to wait 16 minutes for the immobilizer and then he reprogrammed both of the remotes and they work fine. He only charged me $25
Find a locksmith who knows what he is doing. I am going to back to the dealership to get the pedal replaced and I will let them know that the second remote was programed and look forward to hearing their response.

I found my on ebay for 35 dollars. I am sure you can find one there, or try searching online.

I found a remote on Amazon and ordered it. It had the same numbers on the back as the original one. I took it to the dealer where I bought it; they tried to reprogram it but couldn't. It is a large dealership.

Next I took it to a locksmith who said he had done reprograming. Again it failed. The locksmith said maybe it was a wrong part. The person on Amazon said he would refund my money.
Any suggestions?

If the FCC # was the same it should have worked. Perhaps it was defective.
