3rd Generation Cleaning windshield w/ Silblade wipers

Hi Guys,
I have Silblade wipers--I've had them 2 years. I like them, but my dad has been watering the lawn and the water hitting the windshield has stayed on the windshield along with the dirt. When it dries it leaves dirt embedded in the windshield. It's tough to get out. The dirt is trapped in the silicone film. Dawn detergent seems to work a little, but it's not good for the car paint. Rubbing alcohol does not work.

Does anyone else notice a glare at night from the lights on the windshield due to the film of silicone the silblade wipers leaves on the window or maybe it's from the dirt in the film on the window?

It seems like the window needs to be thoroughly cleaned with something that takes the silicone off.

Tom from Tacoma--you're usually good with this stuff. You helped me with my mud guards. Not just Tom anybody.

Thanks Jerry from Jersey

Bonami if you can find it. Its what Tom recommended to me. My local ace hardware had it.

Hi Boosted,
Did you ever have that problem? You clean your windshield with this Bon ami? I usually use A Supercloth & water on the windows, but I don't know if the silicone will be good for the supercloth. I haven't tried it on the windshield. The dirt marks are really in there.
Thanks Jerry

Water from the tap generally has quite a bit of minerals that, if allowed to dry, on the windshield will leave deposits - silicone or not. It's bad ju-ju!

Boosted it right. Try Bon-Ami (and not another similar product!) Use it to scrub the windshield to clean off all the 'stuff' that's on the glass. If mineral deposits remain there is one other thing I'd recommend but you're on your own should you decide to use it....

A light application of '0000'-grade steel wool on the glass will also remove surface minerals. I can't stress enough the "LIGHT" application! Try it on a small area on the side before you go after the windshield!

And for the record - I don't have any glare from headlights at night.

Thanks Boosted and Tom,
I'll try that and some other stuff.
Do either of you hear the silblade wipers screech loudly when there isn't much water on the windshield? They are awfully loud. Maybe it's due to the dirt-maybe I took off too much silicone?
Thanks Jerry

Yeah, every once in a while (like when the wipers are in the auto position and decide to wipe when the ignition is turned on) I'll hear that squeal. Don't worry about it - it's just because of the dry glass.

Don't overthink this - they're just windshield wipers that happen to work really well over a long period of time. If you keep the windshield clear of oily build up from road grim the Silblades will work perfectly.
